The iconic Hotel del Coronado is once again transforming into a winter wonderland, this year bringing the magic of the Wizard of Oz to life with its annual holiday celebration: “A Holiday in Oz.” This enchanting theme honors the hotel’s historic connection to L. Frank Baum, who frequently visited The Del between 1904 and 1917. It was here, inspired by the hotel’s seaside charm, that Baum wrote at least three books in his beloved Oz series, including Dorothy and the Wizard in Oz (1908), The Road to Oz (1909), and The Emerald City of Oz (1910).

This season, guests can immerse themselves in Baum’s literary world with festive décor, thousands of sparkling lights, themed holiday trees, and family-friendly experiences throughout the resort.

A Whimsical Journey: The Tinsel Trail to Oz

New for 2025, the Victorian Garden Courtyard has been transformed into a magical passage to Oz for the all-new Tinsel Trail to Oz. A projected yellow brick road guides visitors through glowing poppies and giant illuminated dandelions. Along the way, four magnificent 12-foot trees celebrate iconic characters: Dorothy & Toto, the Scarecrow, the Tin Woodman, and the Cowardly Lion.

The trail also features:

  • The Road to Oz: The two-story tree in the Victorian Lobby adorned with 10,000 lights and 2,000 ornaments.
  • There Is No Place Like Home: The historic Front Porch welcomes visitors with this timeless sentiment.
  • Glinda of Oz & Wicked Witch of Oz Trees: Encounter whimsical and villainous characters on the Southpointe Lawn and Founders Lawn.
  • The Emerald City: Glittering trees in the Crown & Coronet Rooms for guests attending holiday dining events.
